Overview of the project
TRIC oversaw the entire process of ultra-high-resolution scanning, historically grounded digital restoration, and the development of exhibition content and hardware for Joseon-era cultural artifact, <Pyeongsaengdo>. <Pyeongsaengdo> is an eight-panel folding screen that depicts the ideal life milestones of a Joseon-era individual, from surviving through one's first birthday to a 60th wedding anniversary. Once digital restoration was completed, TRIC developed interactive media content and custom hardware including a digital folding screen and a standing kiosk. The restored work was released in both Korean and English through the National Museum of Korea’s online exhibition. The website offers a comparison interface between the original and restored versions, along with contextual folk culture information and academic resources.
Expanding access to the painting heritage
For the project, TRIC digitally restored damaged sections of the original Pyeongsaengdo (Deoksu 5768) and enhanced the overall composition by referencing a similar painting (Deoksu 1681). The restoration process involved reconstructing missing elements—such as attire, objects, and architectural layouts—based on historical sources and comparable artifacts.
