TRIC has announced the release of the 2024 Digital Heritage Asset Standard Guideline, developed in collaboration with the National Museum of Korea and ETRI. This guideline presents a technological foundation for AI-based content production and data scalability, with a strong emphasis on enhancing Korea’s global competitiveness in digital heritage in the era of artificial intelligence.
Being capable carrying out the full cycle of digitization, archiving, and assetization of cultural heritage, TRIC aimed to systematize the entire lifecycle of digital cultural assets—ranging from acquisition and management to utilization. The guideline comprehensively addresses multimodal structures, various output formats, and metadata configurations optimized for AI learning, maximizing both the versatility and practical application of digital heritage resources. It is also expected to contribute to the establishment of global standards for digital heritage.
TRIC has ensured interoperability with international standards such as IIIF and EDM, and has actively participated in the standards development process of the Korea Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA). The high-quality assets created through these efforts are being utilized across immersive content, metaverse exhibitions, educational platforms, and are even reproduced as ultra-high-resolution public media art installations—faithfully capturing the original form of cultural artifacts and making them accessible worldwide.
Among notable examples, TRIC has already applied this standard guideline to produce the media content for the Pensive Bodhisattva at Incheon Airport's Media Tower and the multi-sensory exhibition at National Museum of Korea.
Looking ahead, this initiative will continue with the upcoming “Digital Asset Guideline 2025,” evolving beyond “usable data” toward “participatory data.” As the AI era accelerates, TRIC remains at the forefront of cultural and technological convergence, laying the groundwork for the global advancement of Korean museums and digital cultural resources.
