The DMA Collection Media Wall offers an immersive and interactive way to explore the museum’s collection. Using an anamorphic display on a right-angled media wall, viewers can experience a sense of virtual depth from specific positions. Motion sensors detect visitor movements to trigger interactive media content. Visitors can browse the high-resolution 4K images and digital archive—produced through TR Super Resolution—via categorized menus such as “Top 100 Highlights,” genre, production year, and acquisition year.
The Art Face kiosk, powered by AI, analyzes the painting styles and techniques of the museum’s collection and transforms user portraits into artworks in similar styles. Finished portraits can be saved or shared via a QR code export function.
A mobile app, developed alongside the media wall and kiosk, provides exhibition and collection info as well as augmented reality (AR) features. Using the DMA logo or wall markers, users can summon virtual exhibition posters through their smartphone cameras and take certified photos with them placed in real-world settings.
Lee Bobae, curator at the Daejeon Museum of Art, stated, “We launched this project to address the lack of opportunities for visitors to engage with the collection beyond exhibitions. This digital archive platform allows people to explore our collection in more engaging and meaningful ways.”
The project was selected as part of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s 2020 Immersive Content Production and Utilization for Public Museums initiative. Supported by KRW 1 billion from the Ministry and Daejeon City, the project integrates advanced technologies with DMA’s collection to create immersive content and new interactive services for the public.
The initiative was carried out collaboratively by Daejeon City (overall coordinator), Daejeon Museum of Art (main operator), and the Daejeon Information & Culture Industry Promotion Agency (implementing body). The media wall and content were produced by TRIC, a company specializing in immersive content based on art asset databases, and SQI SOFT, a global developer of integrated management solutions.
Sun Seung-hye, Director of the Daejeon Museum of Art, noted, “The media wall, kiosk, and mobile app realized through this platform represent a new generation of immersive museum experiences that merge art and cutting-edge technology. This project brings 21st-century empathy-driven art appreciation to the public, and we’re thrilled to provide such a futuristic art encounter to our citizens.”
