On the 20th, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province held an MOU signing ceremony at the provincial office to launch the immersive Silla heritage space project, “Project Gyerim.”

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Governor Kang Seong-jo, Acting Mayor of Gyeongju Kim Ho-jin, CEO of Dexter Studios Kim Wook, CEO of TRIC Kim Jikio, and Secretary-General of the Cultural Expo Foundation Ryu Hee-rim.

This MOU aims to create new tourism assets in the post-COVID era by developing digital tourism resources rooted in Silla culture.

The project also reflects the shared vision of the City of Gyeongju and the Expo Park to strengthen their tourism identity, along with the commitment of Dexter Studios and TRIC to advancing third-generation media art.

Once completed, the Silla Heritage Immersive Space will be the first media art venue based on local historical and cultural resources to operate within the Gyeongju Expo Park.

The immersive space “Gyerim” will be constructed on unused land inside the Gyeongju Expo Park. Unlike existing media art venues that often feature famous paintings or abstract themes, Gyerim will set itself apart by focusing on original content inspired by Silla’s rich historical and cultural heritage, offering a unique competitive edge.

Under the agreement, Gyeongbuk Province, the City of Gyeongju, and the Cultural Expo Foundation will provide the site and administrative support, while Dexter Studios and TRIC will be responsible for content development, hardware setup, and overall operations.

Dexter Studios, Asia’s largest VFX and immersive content company, will produce the core media art exhibition content utilizing Silla cultural heritage.

TRIC, Korea’s leading digital heritage and cultural content institute, is expected to create historically rich and original content that no existing immersive venue has yet achieved.

Deputy Governor Kang Seong-jo remarked, “With the launch of the Gyerim Project, we will transform Gyeongbuk’s cultural assets into digital content and pioneer a new trend in cultural tourism.”
