TRIC Donates Travel Funds for the Türkiye Earthquake Relief
February 12, 2023
An earthquake breakout during 10th anniversary workshop trip
To mark its 10th anniversary on February 5, the Technology Research Institute for Culture & Heritage (TRIC) organized an 9 day workshop in Türkiye, visiting sites from Istanbul and Ephesus to Antalya.
However, on February 6 at 9:06 PM local time, a devastating 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck southeastern Türkiye. With the death toll surpassing 28,000 lives, the disaster has been one of unimaginable scale and sorrow.
At the time of the quake, TRIC was en route across the Taurus Mountains toward Cappadocia. In response to the emergency, the team immediately returned to Istanbul. In solidarity with those affected, TRIC donated 10 million KRW (approx. $7,500 USD)—originally allocated for the remainder of the trip—to support earthquake relief efforts.
We extend our deepest condolences to the people of Türkiye and Syria who have suffered immense loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families, and we hope for the successful rescue and recovery of as many lives as possible.
