TRIC digitally restored the Haenggung (temporary royal palace) site at Bukhansanseong Fortress — a location currently included on Korea’s tentative list for UNESCO World Heritage inscription. This project involved reconstructing the inner court, outer court, and annex structures using digital techniques, paving the way for informed, full-scale restoration in the future.
Originally constructed in 1711 as an emergency royal residence in times of war, most of the palace complex was lost to landslides and floods in the 19th century. This digital reconstruction serves as a critical pre-restoration study, helping to visualize the site's historical layout and architectural significance.
Based on archaeological remains and academic research, TRIC faithfully recreated the full spatial structure — including the inner and outer courts as well as auxiliary buildings. The restoration was built using the latest Unreal Engine, enabling lifelike renderings that reflect seasonal changes and landscaped surroundings.
The final content is adaptable across platforms and is currently exhibited at the Goyang Cyber History Museum and on-site kiosks. This project sheds new light on the historical value of the Bukhansanseong Haenggung and enhances its potential as a cultural education resource and regional heritage attraction.
