As part of the 2019 Immersive Cultural Heritage Content Production project by the Cultural Heritage Administration, TRIC completed the production and installation of an immersive media art video at the Digital Heritage Sharing Room of the National Palace Museum of Korea. This three-part work offers an artistic interpretation of the past, present, and future of Changdeokgung Palace — a UNESCO World Heritage site. Part 1 recreates Donggwoldo, a royal court painting of the early 1800s that documents Changdeokgung as rendered by court painters of the Joseon Dynasty. Transformed into a gigapixel digital media art piece, it invites viewers to step inside the 19th-century palace landscape. Part 2 presents a 21st-century view of Changdeokgung, captured using advanced Korean digital technologies. The point cloud–based 3D reconstruction hints at a new paradigm of interpreting cultural heritage through digital data. Part 3 showcases real footage of the palace, shot in 12K across three screens. Projected onto immersive displays, the palace unfolds in vibrant full color. This media art installation can be experienced in person at the National Palace Museum of Korea's Digital Heritage Sharing Room, or online via a 360° VR video on YouTube.
