TRIC completed the 2019 Digital Replication Content Production Project for the Collection of the National Museum of World Writing Systems commissioned to acquire replica materials of internationally significant writing-related cultural artifacts, secure digital records of original heritage objects, and support scholarly research on historical documentation and current conservation conditions. At the time of the project, museum collections related to Southeast Asian writing systems were extremely limited within Korea. Through this initiative, TRIC sought to create content that would expand public understanding of cultural history through the collection and study of written heritage. As part of the project, TRIC conducted preliminary research on writing-related cultural artifacts across Myanmar’s Bagan Cultural Heritage Zone, including the Bagan Archaeological Museum, and acquired foundational datasets for the production of 3D scans and high-resolution image scans of selected artifacts. To establish an academic basis for documentation, TRIC researched the historical background, literary value, and inscriptions of key heritage objects—including the stone inscriptions of Myanmar’s pagodas and the Myazedi Inscription—while developing foundational knowledge of the Myanmar script and its evolution alongside Pyu, Mon, Pali, and Sanskrit during the Bagan Dynasty (AD 1044–1287). Field investigations were also conducted to acquire digital data directly from the sites. Although additional fieldwork became difficult following the outbreak of COVID-19 after the initial survey phase, TRIC collaborated with local partners experienced in delivering digital heritage projects with European and American institutions. Through this collaboration, the team successfully produced high-quality 3D scan data, photogrammetry datasets, digital drawings, and modeling assets. The project was carried out from November 2019 to December 2020, and its final deliverables were provided to the National Museum of World Writing Systems ahead of its opening in May 2023.
