Reviving Gyeongju — once a global hub of exchange — through Digital Heritage

The first episode of the KBS special documentary Sorabol 1000, created in collaboration with TRIC, airs on October 26 at 9 AM on KBS 1TV.
This production re-examines Gyeongju’s historic significance as the host city of the APEC Summit, where leaders from 21 Asia-Pacific nations gather, and brings to life Sorabol — the global trading capital of Silla in the 8th century — through AI-driven and digital restoration technologies.
TRIC unveils the splendor of ancient Silla, now visible only through archaeological remains, with its real-time digital world built over more than a decade. The program features numerous TRIC projects, including the London exhibition of Seokguram VR, Pensive Bodhisattva VR, the Outernet Pensive Bodhisattva, RTI-digitized Silla's Gold Leaf with Flower and Bird Patterns, digital restorations of the Hwangnyongsa Temple, Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond, and Sacred Bell of King Seongdeok, as well as a 50-meter digital media wall installed at the National Museum of Gyeongju — the venue of the APEC Summit.
Notably, the program provides a first preview of Flashback: Gyerim, a 5,600 m² (60,200 ft²) large-scale Silla spacetime media art museum launching on November 14 — a project commercialized in partnership with VFX powerhouse Dexter Studios, built upon TRIC’s decade of accumulated Silla digital-heritage data and creative expertise.
Ahead of the APEC Summit, Soabol 1000 highlights Gyeongju’s global significance and positions digital heritage as a core cultural asset for Korea’s future — showing how tradition and technology together shape a new era of cultural leadership.
