Digital restoration procedure

This project centered on the invaluable stone rubbing Cheongmyeongbon held by the National Museum of Korea. The high-resolution analysis of this primary source was supplemented by missing sections reconstructed in collaboration with archival resources from the Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies at Seoul National University and Japan’s National Museum of Japanese History, resulting in a complete and reliable edition. TRIC conducted on-site surveys and reviewed historical references to recreate the surface textures and fine details. Supplementary materials, including glass plate photographs and illustrations from the Japanese colonial period, were referenced to restore missing inscriptions. The project also involved curating and translating select passages, allowing each panel of the stele to tell its own story within the completed digital content.
